Fascinating. Fascinating. “Toc Toc” (2017)

I’m being lucky recently when it comes to finding good Spanish productions. Don’t expect it to be a 10/10 masterpiece full of meaningful messages and quotes you can tattoo on your arms. It’s “just” a very well-written comedy. The general idea of this comedy wasn’t that tempting but when I met the characters, I realised the biggest advantage of the story will be those weirdos. Why weirdos? Because the film tells a story of 6 people struggling with different psychological problems of theirs. Therefore, they all decide to meet famous doctor Palomero. Six strangers meet in the waiting room and they need to tolerate each other’s quite… specific behaviour. I have to admit that after 30 minutes I already knew how the whole story is going to end, especially what will happen to the famous doctor. But, obviously, I’m not going to tell you that because, perhaps, for some of you it will be a surprise. Still, if you watch the film closely enough, the ending won’t be that shocking. Yet it was satisfying, both the ending and the whole story. As I mentioned at the beginning, the characters were incredibly well-planned. Their gestures, actions and lines (Ha! Lines! That will become an inside joke for you after watching the film) were perfectly matched, which made me like them all even more. There weren’t many pointless or unspecified behaviours and it means the actors knew exactly what to do to seem authentic. I have to admit I believed them. Some conversations can seem overly unnatural, but, in the end it’s a comedy and such goofy situations are acceptable. For me, very acceptable.

My rating: 7.5/10
