directed by Anne Fletcher

It’s funny, but I was listening to the soundtrack for many years, but never felt like watching the actual film. And 2019 was the year when I finally decided to see this “Dirty Dancing” of 21st century. And I wasn’t wrong. We have a girl, Nora (Jenna Dewan), and we have a boy, Tyler (Channing Tatum). The girl can dance, the boy can… move. Nora is more of a fancy lady, while Tyler could be described as “simple”. Unfortunately, our boy likes to be naughty from time to time and finally gets caught. His punishment is to work voluntarily at the arts school, where he and his friends made a huge mess and destroyed the property inside. And as you may be guessing, Tyler meets Nora there. She’s a very good dancer, who knows the technique and is extremely professional. Those two have nothing in common. However, one day Nora’s dancing partner tells her he has to take some time off due to his recent injury. The girl is slightly panicked because he was her partner for the diploma performance. And that’s the moment when Tyler shows up and says “I can do it”. Welcome to the world of naive stories: Nora says yes, the principal says yes, Tyler, a guy who wears baggy clothes and has nothing to do with ballet, says yes. And you may be wondering why I rated it so high. Well, I know it’s a horribly simple story with silly conversations and “plot twists”, but there are two things I must appreciate. First one is the dancing parts. They are visually very attractive and well edited, in my opinion. I’m not a dancer, but I enjoyed watching their performances. And the second thing is soundtrack. Because it’s simply good. What else to add? It was supposed to be an entertaining film about dancing. Done.
My rating: 7/10
